After doing some research. I found my family came from the Swiss,
town of Eggiwil. This is traced all the way to 1560's .
Religious persecution drove them out (legend has it there was a "Bixler" put
to death for practicing his faith). My heritage springs from three
brothers who landed in Philadelphia 2 (Chirstian & Hans) abord the ship
Adventurer in 1725 and 1 (Peter) in 1727. Settled in Lancaster County, PA.
in those years, and moved west and south from there. They were Mennonite by
religion and very strict. My Swiss name evolved from Bichsel to Bixler.

Wed, August 9, 2006 - 5:45 AMI am Christian by faith, but not mennonite. I remain
non-denomonational. It was very interesting
to learn about the menonite roots and history
of my family. The area around Lancaster
Pennsylvania still has a big mennonite population.
Information on the mennonite denomination can
be found here.

Re: What is your Swiss heritage?
Sat, October 28, 2006 - 12:12 AMMine too :-) Although, if you dig deep enough.... One of my great-grandfathers (mother's side) was a German baron or something who got his chambermaid pregnant - resulting into one of my grandfathers. (Of course he didn't marry her!)
My father's side comes from a village that's very close to the German boarder. So you never know...
